The Arkansas Farm Trail (AFT) is an exciting new program launched in early 2025 by the Arkansas Farm Bureau Federation (ArFB). This first-of-its-kind program connects consumers with local agriculture and teaches about the state’s agricultural industry, allowing farmers to share stories, connect with consumers and increase visibility for ArFB members who produce direct-to-consumer products.
In its first year, AFT included more than 20 farms across 16 counties. The farms on the list grew or raised at least one food product sold on the farms. This farm-to-shelf experience allows farmers to showcase products and emphasize the importance of buying local, while educating customers on how food is grown and produced. Farmers in the program offer fruits, vegetables, grains, meat, canned goods and more.
At each stop on the trail, you’ll meet the farm families who grow the food you can purchase, while creating lasting memories as you travel the state. The AFT is an exciting opportunity for consumers to not only connect with producers but also have some fun along the way by participating with the AFT Passport! Consumers can get a passport at any farm in the program, at their county Farm Bureau office or by printing it online.
As you visit participating farms, ask the farmer to stamp your passport when you purchase an item. Prizes are available according to the number of stamps (meaning the more stamps you receive, the bigger the prize package) with a grand prize for the first three participants submitting passports with stamps from every farm. The grand prize is a custom-made fire pit made by Arkansas FFA members. Keep in mind, farmers are at the mercy of the weather. Be sure to call or check the farm website/social media channels before visiting to make sure the farm store is open.
“With agriculture being the number one industry in Arkansas, this program is a long time coming,” said John McMinn, Director of Commodity Activities & Economics at ArFB. “Over the past decade, farmers in the state have built a strong community of direct-to-consumer sales, which provides a unique opportunity to teach customers how their food is produced. We wanted to capitalize on that teaching opportunity while also promoting the state’s farmers. The Arkansas Farm Trail is a win for farmers and consumers.”
